Welcome to the Space Lab at Texas State University, where we explore the boundless frontiers of space, science, and technology. We are a dynamic research hub dedicated to advancing our understanding of the universe by developing space technology and spacecraft to further the research goals of our scientific community.

The Space Lab is tasked with the development and operation of space satellites to meet the research and educational needs of our university. Currently, we are working on Texas State University’s first Earth-orbiting satellite, “BobcatOrbiter”, planned for launch in late 2024. We are also working on a second satellite as part of a collaboration between Cal Poly Pomona, Mt. San Antonio College, Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia, called Pleaides 5. Our lab is also home to our mission command, the headquarters for satellite communications here at Texas State University to support current and future missions.

Our Mission

At Space Lab, our mission is twofold:

    1. We are driven by a passion for discovery and innovation, with a commitment to fostering scientific curiosity. We strive to educate the student body of Texas State University in space science and technology through hands-on experience and mentorship.

    1. To further our knowledge of the natural world by conducting space research. Collaboration is a hallmark of our lab. Therefore, we also help facilitate research projects for any researcher looking for a gateway into space.

Collaboration and Outreach

Space Lab thrives on collaboration, working closely with other universities, researchers, and space agencies. We are committed to sharing our knowledge and passion for space science with the broader community through student education and interactive events. We aim to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers to reach for the stars.
